“And behold, I am sending the promise of My Father upon you, but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Luke 24:49, LSB
At the Ascension, Jesus told the disciples to go and wait. He told the disciples to wait for the promise and a new covering. I am sure that they were not fully aware of what this promise would be nor did they know how long they would have to wait. From what we know of the events that occur following this is they waited in the upper room where they had last enjoyed their final meal with Jesus before He was arrested and crucified. Those followers waited and prayed. There are times when our Lord calls us to wait. When the prayers that we lift up to the Lord are delayed. God answers prayer, but our prayers are not necessarily answered in the way we think they will be nor in the time that we desire. Even so, God answers prayer. It is hard to wait. We are not patient people. I am fairly confident that some struggled in the waiting. There have been many throughout history who struggled in the waiting. As we struggle, we are to pray. In our prayer, we are to trust. In our trust, we are to hope. In our hope, we find peace. May Christ’s peace fill you.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
