He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.

Psalm 40:2–3, ESV

In times of uncertainty, the world can feel like it is falling away under your feet. Life's difficulties can be overwhelming, but in Christ, we can find great comfort. Faith in God’s providence is meant to draw us out of the deepest, darkest places in our lives and in our souls. We can find comfort in our suffering in the knowledge that we are not left alone. We worship a God who seeks to give us something solid in our lives on which we can be made to feel steady even when things around us are unsettled. Our God alleviates our fears and strengthens us in our struggles. When we place our trust in Him, He can give us a great sense of peace. Unfortunately, the struggles that we face can sometimes overwhelm us, and we may lose sight of His promises, but when we are reminded of His glory and the security that He offers, the song written upon our hearts is transformed, and the laments upon our hearts become songs of praise.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
