Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he himself dismissed the crowd. After he had sent them off, he went up the mountain to pray.

Mark 6:45–46, EHV

There were many hungry to hear the Word and to know the love of God. Hungry for the truth and to know the comfort of the Lord and to be renewed and redeemed. The Holy Spirit was drawing them to the teaching of Jesus Christ. As He saw the weariness of His disciples, He sent them away, released the crowd, and went to pray. This is the Lord we worship. A Lord who centers our faith and following in prayer. He seeks first fellowship with the Father through prayer and as the Son leads all to do the same. We are called to be a people of prayer and all actions and words of our living is meant to be grounded in prayer. After praying our Lord walked on water to His disciples and calmed their spirits and their hearts. As we do the work of faith to which our Lord calls us all, we are to be reminded to center and ground it all in prayer to keep our minds focused on Christ and His promises. The promises of salvation that is given to all who trust and believe. To hold fast and keep our eyes fixed on Him as we walk across the murky waters beneath our feet to take hold of His hand and not sink into hopelessness and despair. It is through Him, we find redemption and in Him we find peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
