But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

2 Corinthians 4:7, ESV

Faith is the greatest treasure that God gives us. Sometimes, we forget this and think it is something we create within ourselves, but how often have we seen those who once expressed great faith only turning away when caught up in times of great difficulty? Why? When we rely on our own strength, we reveal our true god. God’s strength is revealed in our weakness. The healing power of God is revealed in our own lack. When we realize that there is nothing we can do in and through ourselves, God acts for His glory and builds us up in faith. Jesus modeled this for us in His ministry as He cried out to the Father in his prayers. The Son cried out and submitted to the Will of the Father. Lay your struggles at the foot of the Cross.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
