Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God.

Psalm 31:5, ESV

God wants all of us all the time, but often, we can become stuck in our own ways and caught up in seeking to do everything on our own. God’s desire for us is that we seek out His guidance for our lives, not that we need to pray to God in order to decide what clothing we should wear or to do menial tasks throughout our day, but He does desire for us to pray in thanksgiving for the blessings that we have received and ask Him guidance in the decisions that we make that are of great import in our daily living. We are to lay down all our concerns at His feet and seek His guidance in seeking our resolution. When we are troubled and disturbed, we pray for His comfort and protection. Instead of worrying, He wants us to lift our prayers to Him and, in those prayers, place all our concerns at His feet. How often do we worry? How often do we fret over life? Our Lord desires that we commit all of ourselves to Him, including our spirit, even in the midst of our brokenness, and seek His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
