To Life

If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this.

1 John 5:16, LSB

As we look to the souls of others, the focus should not be on the judgment of those who are falling short but to seek and pray that they would turn away and look into ourselves to ensure that we are not guilty of the same. Our prayer should not be for the eternal judgment to fall upon any, but the hope that as many as we can reach for Christ would turn back from their sin and into the care of our Lord’s embrace. Sadly, there will be those who will not and will even fall into sin that is unforgivable, but that is neither for us to judge nor to wish upon anyone. Our hearts are to be ever focused on the restoration of souls and mindful of the words given to us by our Lord, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” These words are meant to resonate into our depths as we look upon the face of our Lord and see the love in His eyes. We are His chosen, and our calling is to seek those He has chosen who have not yet found the Way. Let us begin to discern in our hearts those things that would bring one to death if they do not come to repentance, and lead them into life with our Lord so they can stand together with us in eternity.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
