Then I heard something like the voice of a great crowd and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.”

Revelation 19:6, LSB

Sometimes, those Hallelujahs sneak into our Lenten season, but that happens when we feel urges to proclaim praise to our Lord God and Creator. Even in times of deep contemplation and self-reflection, when things have been rough, we find our hearts lifted and buoyed by our Lord’s glory. The fact that He reigns and is still in control is a wonderful thing that is never-ending. We don’t need to be in despair or ever feel that all is lost because God is always in control, and we can never go further than His hand can reach. This strikes fear in the hearts of those who wish to run from Him, but for us who are firmly in His grasp, it is comfort. In our tears and in our pain, in our sorrow and in our morning, in our suffering and points of great turmoil, God is there, and He reigns.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
