It was for freedom that Christ set us free. Therefore, stand firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

Galatians 5:1, LSB

It is easy to fall into our old sinful patterns. This was true in the Early Church and remains true for us today. I know I have had those times of conviction and have moved away from certain things only to have some return in periods of stress or busyness. Yet, it is precisely in these times that we are reminded to be cautious and not lose our focus on the things to come. This is what Paul was speaking about in His letter and writes of often as we see his continuous call back to faithfulness with the early Church. We don’t often see the sin that binds us as being truly evil because it may just be something common in the world and most think of as normal. Yet, we are called away from the yoke of slavery, the sin in our lives, in order to live as a new creation and new life in our Lord. We need not worry about how the world may think about us, but focus on doing that which pleases the Lord and live in the total freedom given to us in Christ.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
