“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28–30, LSB

Christ changes everything. It is amazing how strongly our will resists the calling of Christ. It is hard to submit, but our Lord Jesus calls us to Himself to take away the burdens that weigh down our souls. We strive and strive often with little result. Yet when we give in, God is there. He covers us with His cloak and gives us His peace. Old wounds heal and the weight of the struggle lifts from shoulders. It is scary to submit. It feels unnatural. Yet God desires for us to find our peace and comfort in Him. There are cheap counterfeits that will deceive, but none can bring the wholeness of peace that our Lord can bring. He offers peace in the midst of chaos, like the calm Jesus brought to the waters, so He can bring in our souls. We mustn’t feel the tumult that will continue in the world because we know who truly is in control. This rest He offers is not a free pass from suffering but in our suffering, our Lord will take the burden. Let us lay all of our struggles at the foot of our Lord and follow Him. In this, we may find peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
