But the LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him.
Habakkuk 2:20, ESV
I remember, as a kid, often being told to be quiet. I never really liked moments of silence. Much of it has to do with a ringing that I have heard in my ears for as long as I can remember. I would yearn to find something to distract me from this ringing. As I have grown in the faith, I have learned how to sit silently in prayer and worship. It has become something that I look forward to doing. In our loud world, it is hard to sit and stop for anything. Our idols consume all of our time and take our focus away from the one true God who is always available to us as He has declared those of us who follow Him to be His temple. In the busyness of your day, take a moment to pray and keep silent, letting Him guide your day.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
