Prepared

Exodus 3:7

And Yahweh saw that he turned aside to look, so God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”

Exodus 3:4, LSB

As followers of the one true God, we are meant to be prepared and ready at all times for God’s calling. The calling of God may not come in such a spectacular way as Moses’. It was an awesome sight for Moses as he came across this bush burning but not being consumed as he was going about his day-to-day work. Most will probably not hear the call like this or like Samuel’s call or Isaiah’s. However, each of us is given a calling. God calls all whom He has chosen. Not all will be meant to lead a large group of people like Moses, but we are called to reflect Him and His light out in the world. We are all called to live and be seen by all as His chosen. The Israelites often failed at this, and the mercy of God was great for them, but they lost out on so many blessings. For us whom God has chosen, the same is true. God does not abandon His chosen, but so much is lost in our disobedience. Let your heart be ready, and your mind be prepared to not only hear the calling of God but to accept it and carry it through. Through you, God can do amazing things.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
