And let perseverance have its perfect work, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:4, LSB
It’s easy to give up when the challenge seems impossible or to stay silent because the numbers seem to stand against you. Jesus calls us to stand fast to the truth and keep to His word and will. We are not to stand idle when we see things that are being done against God but to speak truth to those caught up in darkness. Not with anger or vitriol but with the love of Christ in the center. Our words are not judgment but words that are to help those discerning and seeking God’s love. As followers of Christ, we will face opposition even from those who call themselves Christian, but we are called to faithfully keep and speak the Word. It is the only path to salvation and is the only way to God. We are also called to be discerning in our speech and to differentiate between the things that are central and those that are just our practices that are beneficial but not necessary to salvation. As followers of Christ, we are too often sidetracked by the unessential and people are lost to lies that lead them away from the faith of Christ into false practices and idolatry. Over our lives, as we humble ourselves, God continues to renew and redeem us. He is the one who removes from us the things that are displeasing as He purifies us in faith, and He is the one who gives us peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
