“Who among you, if his son asks him for bread, would give him a stone?”

Matthew 7:9, EHV

We have a faithful and generous God. This is what Jesus is reminding the disciples and us when He spoke these words. God is providential. When we come to Him in prayer He will provide for our needs. This does not mean that we will have all of our wants provided for us. This can be difficult to differentiate. Sometimes the things we want will help us better to do His calling for our lives. That does not make it a need. When we realize that God provides for us it humbles our spirits and helps us to see the goodness of our God when faced with difficulty. It helps us to see sin also, which is oftentimes the thing that caused us to seek after the want which, in our eyes, has become a need. This may be physical, financial, or situational. No matter how true we believe that something will truly make things better. God sees the bigger picture and has already provided all that is necessary for us. King Hezekiah was given fifteen more years of life, but that allowed him to have a son who was unfaithful to God and did what was evil in God’s sight turning the people of Judah to his example also. Learning to see how God provides allows us to see how many countless blessings our Lord has given. In this, we may find His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
