My message and my preaching were not marked by persuasive words of human wisdom, but by a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith would not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

It is tempting to make the message of Jesus Christ a message that tickles the ears of the hearer and entices them to join a congregation for the sake of a filled seat and a full collection plate. The reality, however, is the message of Jesus Christ is not meant to give the hearer warm fuzzies but to challenge the spirit and guide the lives of all believers. If the message that is heard never challenges and has no voice that stands against the false things of this world, what value is it? The word is to build us up so we may stand firm in the face of the lies of the evil one. The Gospel of Jesus Christ stands contrary to the world and is reliant on the Holy Spirit. There are times that the words God may place upon our lips are uncomfortable, but in such times, they are the most necessary words to share. Never out of judgment, but out of compassion. We are not to speak out of anger or disdain, but out of love and a desire to bring one closer to Christ. In the difficult times, we are given the Word to transform our hearts and minds in order to lift up those who are being oppressed by the hand of the evil one and raise them up in the glory of our Lord. It is in this that we may bring peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
