Cease from anger and forsake wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.
Psalm 37:8, LSB
When things are not fair and we see those who do wrong are rewarded by the world, it is easy to become angry and to feel a need to fight for justice. In our anger, we may and more often do say things that are not in line with God’s will and only create greater separation. God desires for us to know that He is in control and our anger and worry of no need and He calls us to stop and leave it all in His hands. Justice will always come, though we may not see it. The things of this world will pass away, but our Lord and His promises will not. As we turn more and more over to the Lord and let Him remove our anger and our fears, we will find relief and will know His grace which He pours greatly upon us. We find in this a great freedom. A freedom from anger and fear. We are not to desire wrath but seek to be a light to those who harm us. When we hand it over to God, we let God do His work in us and allow Him to work in them. In this, we may find His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
