“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything that I heard from My Father, I have made known to you.”

John 15:15, EHV

As disciples, we are friends of Jesus. Think of that reality for a moment. What does it mean to be a friend? Sadly, Jesus was betrayed by a friend when Judas Iscariot handed Him over to be crucified. We can say that Judas didn’t know what He was doing or think it would go as it had, but Jesus had warned him and the others. I don’t believe we would want to be considered a Judas, though. Then there is Peter, who also betrayed Jesus by denying Him three times. Peter changed, but do we want to be like Peter or any other disciples? We are shown in Scripture, however how each, aside from Judas found redemption in Jesus and would sacrifice everything for the faith and in the proclamation of our Lord. We are all called friends to tell others about the gift that we have received from our Lord. Is this not a most wondrous gift?  It is easy to talk about a friend to other friends. We want our friends to get along especially when we make new friends. We invite our friends to gather with us and we want our friends to be friends with one another. This is our faith as we are called friends of Jesus and walk in His way we will lead others to know our friend, Jesus. We are not meant to feel like servants or slaves, but we have our best friend Jesus and in His friendship, we find our peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
