But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.

Micah 5:2, ESV

A long-foretold prophecy of the coming Messiah to give hope to a people oppressed and longing for a return to glory. We are reminded of this in the account of Jesus’ birth as we are reminded of the promise. A promise that led the wise men from the east to follow a star that would eventually lead them to this young child, Jesus, our Savior and Lord. We look, as those wise men so long ago, to the return of our Lord and the struggles of the world will end, as everything will be made right. Let us remember this promise and look again to the hope of one who has come to redeem us all. He will come again and bring us fully into His glory, but we await patiently and remember the miracle that took place so long ago.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
