God is the one who chooses. This reality is difficult for many who like to be in control, but it is true. He is King and He reigns supreme. We know that there is no other God like ours. He caused Nebuchadnezzar to confess Him as God. Sadly, many are too proud to follow Him. This is to their own peril. We look at what He did to those who opposed His people in the wilderness and in Canaan. Some will never see God as the King of all things as they worship all of their idols, false gods that have nothing to give and are created by hands. Idols have changed over time, but they still exist, and those who think that they can be free of that will sadly learn their folly. That is why we pray. We pray for hearts to soften and many to come and know Him. We pray that our hearts are softened for those who do not know Him so that we can witness His glory in our lives. We pray for forgiveness of our errors. In the end, we pray that we will not be consumed by our sinfulness.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
