So Jesus said to them, “For a little while longer the Light is among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes.”

Clarity is a positive thing. God wants us to see everything in His light. We are to disregard what the world desires for us to agree with them and look at all things through the lens of Christ. If we look into a shadow the image is never as crisp. We may see things that are not there or misinterpret images before us. Something harmful may appear harmless and vice versa. When the lights are on, we see everything. When we look at things through the lens of the Word, we may find things that were once held as being acceptable to be despicable. It isn’t that the thing has changed, but when put before the light of Christ we see things as they truly are. There is a reason the lighting in nightclubs and bars are as they are because things may appear more attractive in subdued lighting. We may also find those things that once looked less attractive much more appealing. Our Lord calls us to stay in His light to protect us from the pitfalls that surround us. He desires for us to avoid the temptations that seek to ensnare us. He desires to lead us down His path and away from those things that will trap us. We are reminded to seek His light as we walk the paths of this world and as we journey to know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
