In Season and Out

Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and teaching.

2 Timothy 4:2, LSB

God wants us to always be sharing His love and His Word, not only when it is comfortable to do so, but always. This doesn’t mean that we are to nag or try to place people under our thumb, but we are to stay true to God’s Word and ways no matter what the trends are around us. What is true remains true yesterday, today, and tomorrow. There is no spectrum of truth; it either is or isn’t. The Word of God is always true and we should always seek to be in it so that the Word shapes our lives and peppers our speech so we may honor Him always. The message of Christ is only an offense to those who like to think of themselves as the determiners of what is good and right. We were warned of seasons where there would be those who would not want to hear the unvarnished Word or would not withstand the truth of Christ, but we are to live His Gospel in our lives regardless and speak the words that He places in our mouths and on our lips. As followers of Christ, we may be the only Bible that someone may ever see.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
