Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Philippians 4:6, ESV

God does not want us to worry. As a parent and having shared this with parents, the most common response is a laugh and sometimes a “Good luck with that!” It is hard not to worry, isn’t it? Why do we cling to our worries? Well, it is the same struggle that many have in fully accepting the forgiveness of sin. Though not biblical, we often live our faith under the mentality, “God helps those who help themselves.” Though we know that Jesus has done it all, we often act as though we have to meet Him part of the way or that our issues are too small to leave to God. Most of us would never say that God couldn’t handle it, but the mentality is often centered on the belief that we have to handle things ourselves. One common statement often is, “If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.” “Let go, let God” is often easier said than done. Yet, that is what God calls us to do. We are called to leave it all at His feet. This is His call to us. In our worries, we are to pray with thanksgiving, knowing that God has it all in His control.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
