Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus.

Hebrews 10:19, LSB

Prior to the coming of Jesus, the holiest place was veiled to the people of God. Even for those with permission, there was a risk, which is why they would tie a rope to the ankle of the priest who was called to perform the duties annually in the Holy of the Holies. Through Christ, we no longer have to fear as He has torn the veil and welcomed us in. In Christ, we no longer have to be fearful of the face of God as He has come to us as His people, and we can find comfort in His nearness. No longer are we required to sacrifice to make satisfaction, but we can confess to our Lord and know His forgiveness as we hear His Word spoken to us. We mustn’t cower at every corner or worry whether we have “done enough” or “made the right satisfaction” because, in Christ, we were given the words, “It is finished.” The work of our salvation and redemption has been made complete in Christ and Christ alone. It is our Lord, Jesus Christ, who stands in our stead and washes us clean of all our sins. This is not a door for us to openly pursue sin, but to know that when we are made aware of our sin, we can come to God with a contrite heart and repent, knowing that our forgiveness is certain and we have been redeemed.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
