Imagine

Revelation 5:13

And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

Revelation 5:13, ESV

The popular Christian pop song “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me really encapsulates what I think this verse describes. To sit in God’s glory is the most praiseworthy thing that any of us could imagine, and one day, for those who believe, this will be a reality. John was trying to describe it, and it is still hard for us to understand. It is outside of our imagination. Yet, we can still try. The fact that God adopted us into His family and promised us paradise is too much for us to understand, much less fully comprehend. Prior to the Great Commission, Jesus offered this to the thief on the cross, and as He ascended, He offered it to all as He desired for all who believe to make disciples, beginning with Baptism. The Heavenly Host, who has been in His glory since the beginning of time, continues to praise Him, and we will join them in their chorus while in His presence, but we can sing His praises even now. The songs we sing now will only be a shadow, but let us sing them anyway as we go forth in the promises and blessings of our Lord. May our voices blend with those of the Heavenly Host, and let them be our incense to God for His glory and pleasure.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
