“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is better than wine;”

Song of Solomon 1:2, ESV

As we think of these words of a bride to her bridegroom, the love that she held for her beloved, we are called as the Church, the bride of Christ, to hold similar desire and passion for our bridegroom. Kisses denote honor and position in a relationship. As we look to the mouth of our Lord, this is the place in which we receive His Word and His doctrine. What is better than the Word of God and all that proceeds from it for us? This is what our Lord desires for us to seek in our lives, to feel the heavenly kisses of our God that reveal His true love for us, His chosen people. As we come to the altar to receive His full love and passion, we receive a change in our hearts and spirits as the Holy Spirit comes upon us and reveals us the Father and the Son in order for us to hear the calls of our Lord upon our lives. When we read the words of Solomon in his song, our Lord desires for us to see ourselves as the bride and Him as our bridegroom as we see within His love the full passion in which He gave Himself for us. Our lives are not meant to be led out of pure obedience to His Law but in the love of one committed to live in unity with Him and to do all things to show Him honor and to reveal His glory.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen..”
