“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign.”

Revelation 11:17, ESV

One of the greatest attributes of our God is His mercy. As we realize and submit to the reign of Christ in our hearts, we find peace and comfort in the true and certain knowledge that Jesus Christ has it all under His control. It is when we try to take over and do things for Him that things become difficult. We find that obstacles become barriers, and fear becomes a ruler over life. The less we see God’s reign in our lives, the greater threat is seen in our neighbor, and the stranger is a most dangerous adversary. Yet, when the peace of God rules in our lives and in our families, we can find great comfort in trusting in God’s providence for His chosen. It’s not that God’s reign was begun with the words of the witnesses in Revelation, but that they fully realized His reign over all things. Let us find comfort in knowing who is and who was always in control, and in Him we find our peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
