I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit— that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.

Romans 9:1-2, ESV

Paul’s heart was broken in the knowledge that many of his Jewish brothers and sisters would die without the promise of Jesus Christ. Just as Paul was, so should our hearts be burdened with the knowledge that there will be those who will die without knowing the salvation of Jesus Christ. I have witnessed and heard the witnesses of others who have been confronted by those who proclaim Hell with almost a gleeful joy against those with whom they disagree. Our witness is shown best in our compassion for our community and for those who are suffering, and how much greater is it for those who have no hope beyond this life? As great as our joy should be in the saving faith that we have in Jesus Christ, so should our grief be for those who do not know Him. Let your life reflect Christ and his love.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
