The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of Yahweh; He turns it wherever He pleases.
Proverbs 21:1, LSB
It can be difficult to understand how all power comes from God and how our Lord is all-powerful when we see all the difficulties that surround us in the world. God uses both good and bad rulers for His will and purposes. Our awareness of the truth can help us to appreciate the protection that God offers in giving us faithful rulers, especially when we can see the abuse of others in places of power. As we know from Joseph’s statement to his brothers, God can use things meant for evil to do good. He uses people who may not be faithful to Him or even believe in Him to do His will, whether they know it or not. He utilized Nebuchadnezzar to show His glory and His authority even over Him. Throughout Scripture, we find examples of this reality, and when we reflect on the world, we can see God’s hands at work. God desires for us to pray for our leaders that they are faithful to His will, but also to pray a prayer of thanksgiving for the blessings of having good and faithful governance. We can be thankful when we see the protections that God supplies for us in our law enforcement and through our soldiers. It is through this that we can always give our praise and see how God utilizes them to do His will. Let us always be faithful to use the power He gives us in our lives to glorify Him.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
