And they were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were fearful. And again He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him.

Mark 10:32, LSB

Can you imagine how the disciples felt as they were heading up to Jerusalem with Jesus? They knew that there were Jewish leaders who wanted to silence Jesus and Jerusalem was the nexus. They followed, uncertain, in awe, and afraid. This can happen to us as we walk with Jesus in a world that seems to be becoming much more opposed to what we believe, yet, we walk with Jesus always before us, leading the way. In our walk with Jesus, not all things will be sunflowers and sunshine. There is darkness that wants to quiet the voice of our Lord’s people. This darkness can be scary, and what lies ahead is unknown, but if the Lord leads us there, we can know we are not alone. The journey of our faith is awesome and ever-changing. It may bring us to the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. You may be betrayed by friends and be sent along new paths. All along the path, we are to be reminded of who leads and keep our eyes focused on Him, always. When we lose sight of Jesus, all we need to do is cry out, and we will find that He is there, ready to get us out and continue on our journey. Follow Him and trust that through it all, He will be your only salvation.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
