Don't Blame God

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.

James 1:13, ESV

God doesn’t deny us anything. In the Garden, God gave dominion to our first parents over all things but forbade them from eating the fruit of one tree. That tree was the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. It wasn’t because God didn’t want humanity to be good. At that time, all humanity knew was good. Evil entered through this poisonous fruit. God doesn’t place us in want or cause our suffering, but the Fallen nature of our world causes our suffering. All suffering that we face is not because of God, but during it, we can turn to God and find strength to carry us through it. God may heal us, but God will relieve our suffering. God’s love and forgiveness give us the promise that our suffering will end.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
