Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Hebrews 10:22, ESV

As we look at the writer of Hebrews and this verse pointing us to the wonderful sacrifice made for us all by our great high priest, Jesus Christ, we can confidently walk in the knowledge of the washing we have received from Him in Baptism. We have been made new and cleansed as the evil that once hopelessly bound us up has been washed away. Isn’t that a relief to the ears? In Christ, we are washed and renewed. We can be certain of the work that has been done and move forward as a new creation. This isn’t done so we could return to former ways or willfully turn against God and His creation. Yet, when we slip or make a mistake, He is there to cleanse us again and again. His forgiveness is greater than the seven times seventy. His intentions are clear and simple. Holding fast to the faith and the confession that we make together that Jesus Christ is Lord. This is our certainty and the hope to which we can eternally cling. We have been cleansed by Him in the pure waters and made clean.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
