Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.

Psalm 127:3, ESV

At the time of the Reformation, Martin Luther said that if there were one work that should save you, it would be parents raising children to fear and love God. Christ has done the only work that saves, and as a parent of six children, my greatest prayer is that my children will grow in the faith and will be witnesses of Christ and his love in the world. Many have large families in this community, but we are in an age where there are those who don’t see children as a blessing as God desires us to see them. God gives children not only for the blessing of parents but for the world, and we are given an opportunity to perpetuate the faith through them. Faith transforms families and the world through the power of the Holy Spirit and is God’s blessing to the thousandth generation of those who fear, love, and trust in Him above all things.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
