To whom are we called? Often it may seem that there are those voices that act as if the Church is meant to serve it's members. Is this the purpose of the Church? Our Lord, Jesus Christ, said in Matthew 20:28 and Mark 10:45, that He did not come to be served, but to serve and yet we find the challenge that many act as if the Church was here to serve them. That is not the faith that we profess, that is not the faith to which we are called. That is the faith of the world which is only out to serve itself. The act of works does not save us, but we, that are in the Spirit, are called to serve creation, not out of obligation, but in response. Yet we find the desire is that the pastor is called to serve the members and not to challenge those to whom he/she has been called to serve. As pastor my desire and calling is to proclaim the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ which turns this upside down. We are called to a different calling. A calling which is not to serve our own interests, but to seek out those to whom God sends us that they may come to know the truth.
This will bring about change and evoke a different spirit, the Spirit of our Lord.
