Lamentations 3:24

“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

Lamentations 3:24, ESV

These words are from Jeremiah, also known as the Lamenting Prophet. He had suffered because of the prophecies that God had given to him to share. He also suffered because of his love for his people of Israel, particularly the kingdom of Judah. After witnessing the destruction of Judah and the temple in Jerusalem and the captivity of his people he writes these words of hope and promise. A hope and promise that would not be easily seen at this time. Currently, we live in a time of uncertainty, but we can find confidence and hope as we see how God delivers His people. The Bible is full of accounts of God rescuing His people despite the odds against them. In our times of greatest distress, we can turn to the Lord and witness His glory.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
