Calm and Quiet

Psalm 131

O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and forevermore.

Psalm 131, ESV

This is a short psalm of King David revealing his heart. Though he was king, he humbled his heart to God. Unlike his predecessor, the first King of Israel, Saul, David was open to correction and sought to do what was right in God’s eyes. In times of struggle and uncertainty, we can be comforted by turning to God’s Word and seeking His guidance. Our hope isn’t meant to be placed in the things of this world but in Christ and Christ alone. Place your hope in our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
