And those whom He predestined, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified; and those whom He justified, He also glorified.

Romans 8:30, LSB

We are called by God. It is He who does the choosing. God does not call us because we are perfect or because we have it all together. He calls us for His own glory. Like the Israelites who were not chosen by God because they were the largest or most faithful, as Moses reminds them of in Deuteronomy, so too does God choose to cleave us into the promise and bring us to Himself. We may not understand the reasons why, but we can always be thankful that He has chosen us for eternity as His own children. We are justified by His grace and not by our actions or ability to be just and through our Lord’s justification we are made new and in that we show the glory of our Lord. Jesus the Christ came down for our sake to show us God’s mercy and grace and He died on the cross for us in order to take away our sin and bring us into God’s light and make us His children. It is through Him that we are redeemed and given the gift of eternal life.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
