But HE WHO BOASTS IS TO BOAST IN THE LORD.

2 Corinthians 10:17, LSB

Boast, brag, show off, etc. We only need to turn on the television, open a magazine, or read a newspaper, and we will find a boastful heart revealed. It’s ingrained in us as children, “Look at me!” We like to be affirmed in everything, “You can grow up to be anything you can dream.” As we grow, we often find the limitations of this reality, but the nature is still there as we may become envious of those who have more or live the life we want. Yet, when we turn our focus on God, things can change. When we speak about what God has done in our lives, the miracles that God has worked throughout history, the forgiveness that our Lord gives us in Jesus Christ, and how He is continuing to work in the world today, it is different. It becomes less about things. It becomes less about me or about you, but it has our eyes fixated on Him and His Word. This is the boasting that we are being called to in our lives. See how great God is and what He has done for me and my family. See how another person’s life has changed through God’s intervention. It is in this boasting that we become less as Jesus becomes more.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
