But God chose the foolish things of the world to put to shame those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world to put to shame the things that are strong, and God chose the lowly things of the world and the despised things, and the things that are not, to do away with the things that are, so that no one may boast before God. But because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us the wisdom from God, namely, our righteousness and sanctification and redemption. God did this so that, just as it is written, “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 1:27–31, EHV

What silliness it is to think that through water and the death of a Man on a cross, humanity would find salvation. Yet, we as Christians have been redeemed through these things. Furthermore, we believe that through the resurrection of that same Man and His ascension Christ Jesus will return. To top off our foolishness, we believe that Man to be God in flesh who took upon Himself all sin for all humanity. This is a central tenet of our faith. It is not a work of our own hands. It is a work of God, the Creator, the Three-In-One. He is recreating us in His image and reforming us to do His will. He takes those of us rejected and cast out of the world, renewing and revitalizing us. He helps us to see His love and know His forgiveness. Our Lord was rejected by the very same people who believed themselves to be worshiping the one, true God. It was in His power that the world was transformed in a moment; through Him, we will see creation made anew. Let us boast in Him and know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
