After these days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and for five months she kept herself hidden, saying, “Thus the Lord has done for me in the days when he looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.”

Luke 1:24–25, ESV

Elizabeth received a long-awaited blessing. A blessing she had come to believe never would come to her. God provided her with a son and the world a forerunner for the Savior. Had she not received this blessing her praise of God would have remained as it had for her life. The same is true with her husband, Zechariah. Neither lost faith in God and never would have they ever thought that they would have made a command and a decree to God. When we pray for a blessing, but do not feel it answered by God, we are meant to praise Him. When a blessing is received, we praise Him. Our praises to God are not to be dependent on that He does what we want, but we are called to do His will. In doing so, we find blessings. May Christ’s blessing be with you and may His love fill your heart as we know the great gift that He has given us all in Christ Jesus.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
