“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33, LSB
In the world, we have momentary peace, glimpses, and flashes of time where there seems to be no conflict, but we can only know true peace in Christ Jesus. It is in Him that we can find continuous peace. When everything seems to be going wrong and we turn on the news and see conflict, suffering, and bloodshed we can know the peace that our Lord alone can bring as we pray and seek to bring hope to those suffering. We cling to the promises given to us in the Word and the blessings poured upon us by Christ knowing that the eternal promises are there for us to hold onto. We may turn to the gifts and blessings our Lord has given and know that they are but a glimpse of what is to come. We may find this comfort because of the certain truth that has been given to us in His Word that shows us that the things of this world will pass, but our Lord will stand fast and remain. We are given the promise of renewal and the coming new heavens and new earth that has been laid before us. We can stand with courage knowing that nothing in this world can overcome us as long as we rest in His care. It is here that we find our peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
