Trouble and anguish have found me out, but your commandments are my delight. Your testimonies are righteous forever; give me understanding that I may live.

Psalm 119:143–144, ESV

It’s not hard to know hardship. Mistakes of our past like to creep into our minds and sometimes our daily lives. Things take a turn that was not foreseen, or life just seems to be turned in another direction. These are the normalcies of life. Yet, we can be comforted in knowing that the same is not true when it comes to God and His righteousness. He doesn’t change the rules on us midstream. He doesn’t offer up promises only to take them away. The issues that confront us in life can cause us to lose sight of God and His promises. We can find that Jesus can become obscured by the deceptions of the world. The grace of God can be covered up because we miss what God is doing because we desire God to conform to the ways of our fallen and broken world. Thankfully, He is steadfast and His character does not change. God entered Creation to show us the steadfast love that He holds for us and took upon Himself all the burdens that we cannot carry, so we may know Him and know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
