And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
2 Peter 1:19, ESV
These words of Peter come with warning and promise. Warning: Be wary of those who desire to prophesy about things that do not pertain to Christ. After Christ’s death and resurrection, there were many false prophets that led some away. We no longer have to wonder what will happen or when our salvation will come. Jesus is with us now and has been since He ascended to the throne. It is true that we still await His return, which will bring about our full restoration, but His reign stands firm in the hearts of all who believe and trust in Him for all things. When we hope in things other than Christ, we find He is hidden from our view, veiled in the lies of this world, but He is always nearby and ready to grasp us and keep us from tumbling into the deep abyss. He calls out to His own and proclaims hope and salvation through those who belong to Him. The promise is in trusting in His providence and not being fearful of the things that are going on in the world that have turned away and forgotten Him as Lord and Savior. We turn to His Word, and there we find His promises clearly presented for us to hold onto. The prophecies of our Lord have been fulfilled, and the only prophecies we have to proclaim are His clear and certain Gospels that reveal to us all the sacrifices He made so that we may live. In this, we can find His peace, for in this, we find His light shining brightly in the darkness.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
