Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Psalm 119:105, ESV

This verse from the Psalms I can remember singing as a child and have sung it in various forms throughout my faith life. Hymns and songs resonate within our hearts and are an excellent way to write God’s truth in the hearts of children and adults. The hope of course is that the Word of God helps us in how we live and act. As God’s Word is written on our hearts, it changes us. It is through His Word that He reveals for us His Will and the love He truly has for us. As we place the Word before us, it is easier to see the path He has put before us and helps us avoid pitfalls. Like a flashlight or lamp in the dark of night, the Word reveals to us the risks that are around us. Let God’s Word be the light in your life.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
