A Great Light

Isaiah 9:2

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.

Isaiah 9:2, ESV

A promise spoken so many centuries before His coming, yet these words still resonate in the souls of those whom our Lord has called. God had chosen the people of Israel out of many people groups, not because they were big nor because they were the most faithful. God chose them because He does as He wills. For us who walk in error. We walk in darkness, but when the Lord shows us His light, we are drawn. The Magi were drawn to the light of the Lord to come and reveal the Messiah, and we are still drawn. We are drawn to that baby born into a very simple life. No special doctors, no sterile room. Our Lord was born in a barn with only the animals as His attendants. It is this light that draws us in and sets us apart. The darkness of the world has no power over us as we stand in the awesome light that our Lord casts out, yet the worries of the world try to crowd out the light and dim the beams that radiate out into the world. He covers us in His glory and takes upon Himself great suffering so that we are made new. It is this glory that rises up and shines ever so brightly, and it is this glory that we mustn’t let be covered up. Here lies the promise that draws us out of our error and into Him. It is here that our hope lies, and in Him we find our home.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
