A Faithful Father

Matthew 1:19–21

And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

Matthew 1:19–21, ESV

A faithful heart and a thoughtful prayer change everything. Joseph was troubled that his betrothed was pregnant and laid his concerns on the Lord as he prayed to discern what he would do. He then trusted in the answer given to him by God concerning the child in Mary’s womb. It is only by the power of the Holy Spirit and Joseph’s faithful heart that we find the full acceptance and trust that he exudes on Mary and our Lord carried safely in her womb. We are daily called to this miracle as we pray for the Lord’s guidance and to help us trust in His promises. In these prayers, we find faith comes alive, and the lies of the deceiver fall flat. As Joseph’s heart desired to keep Mary safe, let our hearts safely carry the Word into the world as we see faith come to life in the lives with whom we build relationships. Let us know the peace that only our Lord can give in times of uncertainty as He prepares our path.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
